GLOBALSAT GROUP WAS RECENTLY HONORED WITH THE EVOLUTION CATEGORY OF THE ELEKTRO SUPPLIER AWARD IN BRAZIL

Elektro, one of the largest electricity distributors in Brazil, has honored Globalsat Group with an award which highlights its strategic importance as a partner

SAO PAULO, SAO PAULO, BRAZIL, August 10, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Elektro, one of the largest electricity distributors in Brazil, has awarded Globalsat Group, the first Pan American satellite telecommunications services company, with an award which highlights its strategic importance as a partner who has evolved to meet Elektro's growing and sophisticated communications on the move needs (COTM).

Iberdrola-controlled Elektro distributes power to 228 cities across one of the region's most challenging territories. This involves 112 thousand kilometers of distribution networks operating in an area of 121 thousand square kilometers, including both heavily and sparsely populated areas. Throughout this territory, the company is in charge of 1.7 million poles and 140 substations, and critical to its mission is a fleet of over a thousand vehicles. Many of these vehicles need 24x7 communications no matter what, which is why Elektro counts on Globalsat for mobile L-band satellite service.

Igor Falcao, head of Globalsat do Brasil and Senior Vice President of Sales - Latin America of Globalsat Group, comments: "We are delighted and proud of this distinction. Working with Elektro has been a complex undertaking and has required that we maximize efforts across our local and international organizational structure from the get-go. The importance of power cannot be overstated, it's as mission-critical as it gets and we have been able to deliver and maintain high availability mobile satellite PTT communications at an unprecedented scale in the region. This has allowed Elektro to minimize costs and maximize uptime through the constant and optimal availability of their distribution network servicing fleet."

At the heart of the mission critical PTT solution that Globalsat Group provides for Elektro there is an intelligent PTT (Push to Talk) terminal, which makes efficient use of L-Band and terrestrial cellular services simultaneously, providing low cost voice connectivity when cellular is available and seamlessly switching to satellite service when or where cellular is not available due to geographic conditions or any other circumstance, including network congestion or failure due to natural disasters.

Distributed annually, the Elektro Supplier Award recognizes and disseminates the best practices of suppliers of materials and services, encouraging the continuous improvement of their processes, not only to meet the requirements of contracting services or supply of materials but also to promote total alignment with the Elektro mission.

Globalsat Group and Iridium present the Iridium NEXT constellation and Iridium Certus services in Chile

High level executives from both companies provided key points and explained details of the new constellation and services.

SANTIAGO, CHILE, April 18, 2017 /EINPRESSWIRE.COM/ -- The event, organized by Globalsat Chile, the local affiliate of the Globalsat Group, took place at the W Hotel Convention Center, where an interested audience was presented with the array of services which will be enabled by the new satellites.
Our close relationship with Iridium allows thousands of our customers to count on us for providing communications where and when other means are not available”
— Silvina Graziadio, Globalsat Group

Representatives of the Chilean Navy, Directemar, SHOA, Army, emergency services and businesses were among the many attendees which learned about the evolution of the Iridium® NEXT constellation and the new functionality that will be provided thanks to its full renovation. This functionality is of particular interest in countries like Chile, where emergencies caused by natural disasters often take telecommunications services to their limits. Iridium is already known for its global voice service which is often used to save lives and infrastructure. Iridium Certussm will provide similar ubiquity and dependability for data services.

Iridium Certussm is the name chosen by Iridium for its line of evolved L-band services enabled by the new Iridium NEXT constellation. This includes new modes of switched-circuit voice, push-to-talk voice, data / Internet and IoT / M2M. The new satellites will provide better voice quality, increased signal strength, higher bandwidth, while continuing to provide transparent compatibility for users of current Iridium voice and data services.

Resize the browser window to see how the image will scale.

One Iridium Certus mode will provide global pole-to-pole Internet access at speed of up to 1.4Mbps, through end-user terminals which will not require pointing, can be carried in a suitcase or backpack and are ready to operate anywhere on the planet, including the whole Antarctic continent.

Silvina Graziadio, director of marketing and business development at Globalsat Group said: “Our close relationship with Iridium, now spanning more than 18 years, allows thousands of our customers to count on us for providing communications where and when other means are not available. We are pleased to accompany Iridium in the presentation of its technological evolution, which increments the availability of existing services and allows more bandwidth, something many of our clients are looking forward to.”

Graziadio added: “Our ample pan-american presence, the value we add through local experience, free access through a shortcode to customer support and the work we have done in multiple countries to comply with all regulatory requisites are some of the reasons why Iridium counts on us to facilitate market access throughout the western hemisphere.”

Bryan Hartin, executive vice president sales and marketing at Iridium stated that "Latin America / South America is an important market for Iridium across maritime, land mobile, aviation and IoT. Globalsat Group is able to bring partners and customers from across the spectrum and they have expertise in each of those lines of business, so as we introduce Iridium Certus we are going to rely on Globalsat Group to be a very important partner here in Latin America.”

Iridium NEXT

The launch of Iridium's second generation satellites began on january 14. This date marked the beginning of the largest satellite renewal campaign in history, a double-feat considering that Iridium already operates the largest constellation ever put into space. As of this writing, 8 of the 10 new satellites launched in january are already in their orbital slots and providing services to users, after seamless in-orbit transitions which did not cause service interruption to users.

The next launch of 10 new satellites is planned for mid-june, and will be followed by a series of similar launches until the Iridium NEXT is fully deployed by 2018.

Mobile Satellite Services In LATAM... The Opportunities + The Challenges

The decrease in growth and even contraction in activities related to oil & gas as well as mining are often referred to as the cause of negative effects on satellite services in Latin America (LATAM).

J. Alberto Palacios, Chief Executive Officer, Globalsat Group . Photography by: ©Michael B. Lloyd

These activities, which traditionally operate in remote areas where terrestrial communications infrastructure is scarce or nonexistent, represent a significant demand for mobile satellite services (MSS) and fixed services (FSS). This lack of a communications structure has the potential to create new opportunities. While the day-to-day operations may be diminished and, therefore, human activity and need for higher bandwidth FSS may decrease, companies will not just abandon their infrastructure.

According to the CESLA, although contraction of GDP was negative in three countries of the region in 2016, such will be negative in only one country—Venezuela—in 2017. The IMF states that their own projection of negative growth (-0.5 percent) hides that most countries in the region continue to experience growth. The OECD also predicts 2017 will be good for several countries in Latin America. Consequently, much of the infrastructure can stay in "pause." This creates opportunities through demand for satellite surveillance, telemetry and remote command, allowing their owners to maintain control over the infrastructure and even operate some of that infrastructure without human interaction in the field.

The road to satellite controlled automation is facilitated by a growing supply and a maturity of solutions that are tailored to IoT / M2M through existing services, such as Inmarsat’s IDP and BGAN M2M, Iridium SBD and Globalstar Simplex, in addition to the usual VSAT-based solutions. The modern enterprise is mobile, and must be mobile even in the most remote and hostile environments:

The real-time connectivity to mobile resources provided by these platforms opens the door to a true revolution in process optimization, updating complete production structures to up-to-the-minute demand rather than month by month optimization. Permanent connectivity can, therefore, allow efficiency to increase almost up to the theoretical limit. To make this possible in practice, customers need a true service partner they can trust, not just a hardware provider. This requires a company with the experience to add value, customize and integrate technology.

Additionally, customers require prompt and highly granular access to their services. Globalsat Group provides tools for self-management, through which customers can see their resources in real time and even turn terminals off remotely, at will, to control costs through specialized tools such as AirtimeSAT. This kind of service control is especially appealing in these times of increased corporate risk in the LATAM region.

Connectivity Can Provide Value + Savings
Permanent connectivity even in areas where terrestrial network coverage is available can be a challenge in Latin America. The rapid growth of mobile Internet users pushes the limits of mass use infrastructure. In example, there is a case in Brazil where Globalsat Group operates more than 500 mobile satellite broadband terminals for a company linked to the energy sector. That company does not want to rely solely on the quality of service and coverage of cellular companies—their business in these critical times is 24x7 mission critical.

Permanent and redundant connectivity allows that firm to monitor and communicate with their entire fleet, optimizing routes on the fly as conditions change across their infrastructure. This capability provides significant savings to their operations and increased service continuity for their customers and the country. Addressing such projects where a turnkey solution comprised of multiple terminals must be developed and operated reliably, all based on specific customer needs. To simply be a provider of satellite airtime is no longer enough for business success.

An agile and cohesive team connected to the operational and regulatory situation in each country can make the difference between growing steadily in an increasingly demanding market or maintaining a status quo that will reduce competitiveness and cause market loss.

A Flexible Organizational Structure To Adapt To Difficult Times
To increase efficiency and user satisfaction across a diverse market, the Globalsat Group affiliates operate as parts of a mesh network: customers in each country are directly served by a local team, and within each team there are experts in specific solutions.

When expertise that is available in another team is required, there is direct contact from team to team without going through the central organization. This allows for streamlined management and also gives all clients access to all experts in all areas of the operation, such as standard voice and data, IoT / M2M, software development and hardware, aviation and maritime satellite technology, streaming / media and even land mobile radio.

Frost & Sullivan, which recently granted the company the 2016 Latin America Satellite Company of the Year Award, has estimated that for success in Latin America, there are several key points: fulfilling unmet needs, anticipating scenarios, commercial best practices, financial performance, product price/performance, customer purchase experience and brand value are some of the areas where a satellite services company must maintain excellence in order to survive.

According to Euroconsult, the future of the MSS industry will depend on how quickly suppliers are able to adapt to new market conditions. Globalsat Group believes those of us who are able to anticipate these conditions have the winning hand. This is an experience that the company wishes to share—because if other market players do well, a positive spiral will be generated for the entire satellite industry.

J. Alberto Palacios is the Chief Executive Officer of Globalsat Group, the first pan-American group to provide Mobile Satellite Services (MSS). Mr. Palacios is well known for his extensive experience in the industry with particular focus on emerging countries. Under his vision, the group he founded in 1999 has become the leading multinational MSS organization to serve the Latin American market, with an accelerated growth over the past years, offices in eight countries and distributors throughout the region. He is currently based in the Palm Beach area in Florida, where the group headquarters is located.

Fleet Xpress demos in Latin America for the first time

22 June 2016: Inmarsat, Cobham SATCOM and MultiSAT – Globalsat Group, have hosted a series of seminars to showcase the capabilities of Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress service to the Latin American market for the first time since its launch.

The seminars were held in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico focusing on the maritime and offshore markets working in the Gulf of Mexico; and in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, targeting the industrial fishing sector operating in the Pacific Ocean. The events attracted owners and operators together with distribution partners and installers.

FX-in-latin-America

Fleet Xpress, based on Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress (GX) satellite constellation, is the first globally available, high-speed broadband solution for the maritime market.

Operational efficiency

It combines the high data speeds of Ka-band with the ultra-reliable FleetBroadband L-band service for unlimited backup to enable ship owners and operators to enhance business intelligence, improve operational efficiency and vessel performance, as well as provide a host of high-value, crew welfare benefits.

“In Ciudad del Carmen attendees were able, for the first time in Mexico and Latin America, to see a working Fleet Xpress SAILOR 60 GX antenna, delivering unprecedented levels of voice and data connectivity,” said Porfirio Suarez, Maritime Director for the Globalsat Group and Country Manager for MultiSAT Mexico.

“The Fleet Xpress service demonstration included the streaming of live video content, as well as large file transfers and latency and bandwidth tests.”

New standard

“Fleet Xpress is truly setting a new standard in maritime communications and we’ve been excited to demonstrate to the Latin American market the value that the service can deliver”, said Christian Cordoba, Inmarsat Maritime Channel Manger for Latin America.

“Fleet Xpress offers the ability for ship owners to not only make real benefits to their business, to enhance vessel performance and to help control costs, but also help attract and retain skilled crew.”

The new SAILOR 60 GX from Cobham SATCOM was also on show at the seminars, which offers a light weight, compact, yet robust antenna pedestal, weighing only 32kgs/82lbs.

Inmarsat continues pace of innovation for Government users

03 November 2015: The pace of innovation in commercially-operated satellite constellations is enabling governments to increase their satcom capabilities more cost-effectively, according to Andy Start, President of Global Government at Inmarsat.

In his presentation at Global MilSatCom today in London, Mr Start outlined how Inmarsat is empowering governments across the world, announcing that Global Xpress services are now available for government users across North, Central and South America and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as Middle East, Africa and Asia, which has been in operation since summer 2014.

“Increasingly, we are finding our government customers around the world need to do more with highly challenged budgets,” he said.

Advanced communications

“The most efficient way to do this is often to leverage advanced communications and IT infrastructure to make better use of people, vehicle, aircraft and ships.

“We’re proud to help them achieve best-value by partnering with leading commercial suppliers to develop bespoke government solutions on top of their commercial networks.”

Inmarsat is at the forefront of this trend, having successfully launched the third satellite in its next generation, Ka-band Global Xpress constellation in August 2015, Inmarsat’s new satcom network is on course to enter global commercial service by year-end.

Latest innovations

During Global MilSatCom, Inmarsat will be highlighting the latest innovations from Inmarsat, which include:

  • Global Xpress (GX): Three major governments now rely on GX as part of their mission critical communications capability and four other governments are actively testing the capabilities of the new network
  • L-3 GCS Cheetah II type approval for GX operation: This lightweight, truly portable and ‘airline checkable’ terminal is embedded with the iDirect Velocity Global Xpress Core Module, 5W commercial Ka-band BUC, controller/processor and Ethernet switch. The GCS ViewSAT-e software provides monitor and control of the terminal through the use of an intuitive web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI). With over 1500 units of the predecessor sold, this lightweight solution is the highest performing auto-acquiring terminal within the Global Xpress catalogue and goes from case to network operation in less than 10 minutes.
  • Successful extension of L-TAC into the aviation sector: Developed in response to market demand generated by the widespread adoption of UHF and VHF variants of the Slingshot applique, L-TAC is a further example of Inmarsat responding to the specific requirements of the government market. Iridium Completes First Iridium Certus(SM) Broadband Call

Major Milestone Proves Efficacy and Quality of New Solution for Voice and Data Communications

MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:IRDM) announced today that it has successfully conducted the first ever voice and data ground test call over the next-generation Iridium Certus broadband network, currently under development.  Iridium Certus is the new global broadband capability being introduced on Iridium NEXT — Iridium's next-generation satellite constellation.

The voice and data call utilized and demonstrated the capabilities of three newly developed core components of the Iridium Certus communications system for the first time: the broadband satellite terminal, Iridium NEXT satellites, and upgraded capabilities in Iridium's terrestrial gateway.

The call originated from a prototype satellite terminal previously announced as the Iridium Certus Broadband Core Module (BCX), then processed through an Iridium NEXT satellite undergoing testing for first launch that was updated with Iridium Certus software, and then terminated through the Iridium Certus gateway subsystem connecting to the public network.  The broadband call demonstrated highly anticipated enhanced voice and broadband capabilities of the new Iridium Certus service.  The service will introduce an initial data speed of 352kb/s and a new, high quality voice codec which will operate at 2X the current bit rate of Iridium's current generation offerings. Iridium Certus's uniquely scalable architecture will enable data speeds eventually as high as 1.4 megabits per second for a single user terminal after Iridium NEXT deployment is completed.

"This is a major milestone in proving the quality and potential of Iridium Certus. With our new BCX module and the enhanced capabilities offered through our Iridium NEXT satellites, our manufacturing partners will be able to offer industry-leading satellite broadband capabilities through our global distribution channels to the aeronautical, maritime and land mobile markets," said Brian Pemberton, vice president and general manager, maritime and aviation businesses at Iridium. "Iridium Certus will be a major advancement in broadband mobile satellite voice and data communications from anywhere in the world."

Iridium Certus will deliver an enterprise-grade mobile satellite broadband service that is able to serve as a standalone service or complementary component of a VSAT solution. Iridium Certus terminals are also expected to be able to offer maritime and aviation safety services once approval is granted by the respective authorities.  In addition, the terminals are multi-service capable, allowing terminal manufacturers to enable multiple Iridium services such as Short Burst Data and Iridium Burst®, in addition to broadband and high quality voice — all from the same user terminal.  The Iridium Certus service will enter beta testing as Iridium NEXT satellites come online, even prior to the full deployment of the Iridium NEXT constellation, with commercial service launch to follow a successful beta testing phase.
