22 June 2016: Inmarsat, Cobham SATCOM and MultiSAT – Globalsat Group, have hosted a series of seminars to showcase the capabilities of Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress service to the Latin American market for the first time since its launch.

The seminars were held in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico focusing on the maritime and offshore markets working in the Gulf of Mexico; and in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, targeting the industrial fishing sector operating in the Pacific Ocean. Fleet Xpress, based on Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress (GX) satellite constellation, is the first globally available, high-speed broadband solution for the maritime market.

Operational efficiency

It combines the high data speeds of Ka-band with the ultra-reliable FleetBroadband L-band service for unlimited backup to enable ship owners and operators to enhance business intelligence, improve operational efficiency and vessel performance, as well as provide a host of high-value, crew welfare benefits.

“In Ciudad del Carmen attendees were able, for the first time in Mexico and Latin America, to see a working Fleet Xpress SAILOR 60 GX antenna, delivering unprecedented levels of voice and data connectivity,” said Porfirio Suarez, Maritime Director for the Globalsat Group and Country Manager for MultiSAT Mexico.

“The Fleet Xpress service demonstration included the streaming of live video content, as well as large file transfers and latency and bandwidth tests.”

New standard

“Fleet Xpress is truly setting a new standard in maritime communications and we’ve been excited to demonstrate to the Latin American market the value that the service can deliver”, said Christian Cordoba, Inmarsat Maritime Channel Manger for Latin America.

“Fleet Xpress offers the ability for ship owners to not only make real benefits to their business, to enhance vessel performance and to help control costs, but also help attract and retain skilled crew.”

The new SAILOR 60 GX from Cobham SATCOM was also on show at the seminars, which offers a light weight, compact, yet robust antenna pedestal, weighing only 32kgs/82lbs.

Lightest weight

Equipped with state of the art RF as well as direct drive motors, the SAILOR 60 GX guarantees the lightest weight as well as the maximum RF and pointing performance, unequalled in a 60 cm antenna system.

Additionally, the SAILOR 60 GX features Cobham SATCOM’s “One Touch Commissioning”, single cable RF/Control and easy to use user interface to reduce installation time and costs.

“When you consider all of the above features, and the fact that the SAILOR 60 GX is backed by the largest global support network in the maritime satellite communications industry, there can only be one choice for a sub-meter Fleet Xpress antenna, the Cobham’s SAILOR 60 GX,” stated Jesús V. Alegría, Latin America Sales Director for Cobham SATCOM.

Seasonal coverage

During the seminars, Inmarsat also unveiled the latest Fleet One Global plan, which offers basic functionality, greater cost and usage control, with the reassurance of a trusted global commercial satellite network.

With the ability to activate or deactivate the service as needed, Fleet One Global is ideal for those vessels looking for seasonal coverage such as in the fishing market

Seminar attendees also had an opportunity to see live demonstrations of Inmarsat’s Fleet Media service, an innovative maritime entertainment solution, bringing the latest in Hollywood and international films, sports, news and TV shows to vessels around the globe.

Innovative service

Fleet Media gives crew members access to hundreds of hours of multilingual on-demand content that can be watched via Wi-Fi or physical network connection, via their own PC, tablet or smartphone, and is already enriching the livelihood of crew at sea.

J.Alberto Palacios, CEO of Globalsat Group said, “The launch events held in Mexico for Inmarsat’s innovative Fleet Xpress service has enabled Globalsat Group to consolidate its technological regional leadership and gives our clients and partners the ability to be at the forefront of maritime satellite communications once again.”
